RRTS OPERATIONAL TILL MODINAGAR

RRTS NOW OPERATIONAL TILL MODINAGAR NORTH

India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), i.e., Delhi-Meerut RRTS, is now operational until Modinagar north station. The train was flagged off by Hon'ble' Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday. Earlier, the train ran from Sahibabad to Duhai depot, which was inaugurated in October 2023. The Prime Minister had also named the train ‘Namo Bharat’ during its initial inauguration ceremony at Sahibabad in 2023. This extension has added a 17-kilometer stretch from Duhai to Modinagar station. This extension encompasses three stations: Muradnagar, Modinagar South, and Modinagar North.

With the addition of this 17-kilometer section, Namo Bharat will now be available for 34 km of Delhi-Meerut RRTS. The route, as of now, incorporates eight stations from Sahibabad to Modinagar north. Although the train was flagged off on Wednesday, the public operation of this newly added section started on Friday. The train service will be available for commuters from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. for the entire section from Sahibabad to Modinagar North.

The train is set to have a design speed of 180 kilometers per hour (kmph) and an operational speed of up to 160 kmph. With this speed, the travel time between Delhi and Meerut will shrink to around an hour, maybe less.

The introduction of this service will be a relief for the daily commuters between the two cities. RRTS trains are significantly faster than the metro, which will reduce the travel time of the route by almost half. Also, such projects are great for the upliftment of semi-urban areas. RRTS will be able to provide a more safe, fast, and reliable commute option for all.
